Performance commentary as of 3/31/21

Post-election volatility and COVID-19 vaccine rollouts dominated market headlines during the quarter and investors began to think about a postpandemic world. Given this backdrop, we saw some reshuffling of market leadership during the period with smaller names outperforming larger names and value-oriented companies beating growth names for the first time in many years. During the period, the strategy underperformed its benchmark, the Russell 2000 Growth Index. Stock selection was the primary driver of underperformance.

Stock selection within information technology, industrials, and consumer discretionary weighed most on relative returns.

Positioning and security selection within health care and names held within consumer staples helped offset some of the relative weakness.

Performance commentary is not intended to be relied upon as a forecast or as research, or investment advice, and is not a recommendation, offer, or solicitation to buy or sell any securities or to adopt any investment strategy. It should not be assumed that an investment in any security mentioned was or will be profitable. As with any investment, there is a potential for profit as well as the possibility of loss.
